Boulevardier Cocktail Recipe
Swap the gin in a Negroni for bourbon and you land on a Boulevardier. Same bitter backbone, but warmer, rounder and far better suited to a cold night. An American expat invented it in 1920s Paris, and it has been quietly outclassing its famous cousin ever since.
Ingredients
- Bourbon or Rye Whiskey - 90ml (3 Squeezes)
- Campari - 60ml (2 Squeezes)
- Sweet Red Vermouth - 60ml (2 Squeezes)
- Orange peel to garnish
Method
- Add all spirits to a mixing glass with ice and stir well.
- Strain into a glass over fresh ice.
- Garnish with an orange peel.
Squeeze Tip
Most people build this equal parts and then wonder why it tastes like a Negroni in a hat. Go whiskey-forward: three Squeezes of bourbon against two each of Campari and vermouth. And stir it, never shake. There is no citrus in here, so a shake just clouds the drink and waters it down.
